Charged with the idea that no modern woman is one-dimensional, Donna Karan envisioned her pre-fall show as a two-part platform. The first introduced Karan’s new initiative, which addressed today’s increasingly casual lifestyle in some combination of ruggedly chic layers, whether a clingy jersey dress or slouchy knit slung with leather belts and topped with an aviator jacket, shearling or fur scarf that exuded luxurious nonchalance. The show’s second half was an ode to Karan’s classic, urban professional, the type who needs a pretty silk blouse and trouser as much as proper evening attire. All could be found here in various tawny shades (apparently Karan’s woman will not require color this season) and the same enticing sophistication that Karan strives for in all aspects of life.
