John Galliano took the Duchess of Windsor’s legendary style and gave it a youthful spin for his pre-fall Dior collection. With winks to her hunting outfits and Balmoral Castle, the madcap British designer interpreted the many English-isms with a playful, and very upscale, take. Clan tartans added spice to skirt suits and mini kilts, while ribbon embroideries and fox fur collars luxed up classic cable knits and argyles. (Also in the mix were soigné evening gowns and robust suede coats and jackets.) As for all the chunky costume jewelry, it was inspired by the Duchess’ extensive collection of baubles, including lipstick cases and charms galore.
