“This season’s very item-driven,” said Mary-Kate Olsen, gesturing to the racks of separates in Elizabeth and James’ new downtown showroom space. Taking cues from the fabrics, hearty jacquard and matelassé jackets were cut boxy and left unlined, then layered artfully over loose crepe de chine dresses and bathrobe-jackets with angled hems as well as a cropped sweater and silk sweatpants. The mix was one of irreverent chic and perfect for a transitional season like pre-fall. “Our girl likes layering so these pieces really answer to that,” noted Ashley Olsen. The lot was worn with black-and-white ankle boots and gold ring bands. The company’s accessories continue to expand with handbags expected to launch for fall.
