Gilles Mendel looked to a darker side for pre-fall, showing a J.Mendel collection in rich, earthy tones of wine, forest green and plenty of black, with texture worked into most of it. He used a clever mash-up of materials for terrific vests in shearling, mink and leather with zip-off peplums, and leather and metallic jacquard skirts and dresses. Beautiful camel wool and black cashmere fitted coats were worn over matching lean skirts, while leather-accented, below-the-knee sheaths reflected a restrained chic.
