“More and more, each season is starting with the textiles,” said 10 Crosby Derek Lam design director Elizabeth Giardina. “It’s what really differentiates us at this price point.” Pre-fall’s roots were in minimalism, in keeping with the Palm Springs midcentury modern architecture that inspired the lineup. There was some great soft-shoulder suiting, mannish pants and crisp cotton blouses, but the wow factor came via the imagined interiors of those houses. A boxy, wool lace top and the leather fringe dresses and midi skirts, for example, were a nod to wall tapestries, while a mohair fur topcoat harkened a shaggy rug. The patchwork details offered a strong visual throughout, be it on the leg of a pair of sweatpants or the vamp of a Moroccan-style slipper.
