Scott Sternberg honored the pragmatic point of view inherent to pre-seasons, viewing pre-fall as an opportunity to “get to the core of the brand” with wearable Band of Outsider staples. That did not preclude the indie-prep, West Coast sense of humor that’s central to Sternberg’s aesthetic, so he filed the collection under city girls, country girls and the girls from “Last Days of Disco.” Tapered cropped suits came in camel velvet. Trenches were mashed up with bright and sturdy blanket plaids. There were boyish schoolgirl looks and a chicly tailored shirtdress, plus a little retro kitsch in the striped T-shirt with a DeLorean car decal.
