Pierpaolo Piccioli‘s lineup at Red Valentino centered on the stylish characters one might have found at the Chelsea Hotel circa the Sixties and Seventies — the likes of Janis Joplin, Patti Smith and Sid Vicious. In the spirit of Joplin, Piccioli presented new takes on the label’s bohemian maxidresses, this season rendered in crinkled silk for a vibe that says “she’s come undone.” Romantic details weaved throughout — colorful and floral embroideries, heart prints, ruffled bibs and point d’esprit tulle — rang true to the label’s femininity. Elsewhere, tailored suiting, including a chic pair of suspender pants, channeled the effortless, men’s-inspired style for which Smith is known. A black leather motorcycle jacket with star embroidery and a slick patent leather trench nodded to punk and fetish motifs, rounding out the collection with a dose of tough-girl cool.
