Last year, the Alexander McQueen team took the McQ line in-house, and it’s now overseen by creative director Sarah Burton. The company recently launched footwear, and this resort season introduces McQ’s first handbag collection, which features bright, punchy numbers in leather, vinyl, denim and neoprene. As for the clothes, McQ is in a sporting mood, showing a host of curvy, body-con dresses and trousers inspired by scuba suits and motorcycle gear. Details include lots of quilting, chunky zippers, buckles and studs. But there’s a softer side too, with gently draped minidresses and delicate, cardiganlike leather jackets. The color palette is unabashedly summery with bursts of electric blue and neon pink and orange, while prints are bold and drawn from abstract images of rock and dune formations.
