If Narciso Rodriguez is feeling particularly inspired for resort, it’s because he recently met Cuban artist Carmen Herrera who provided him with a thematic platform for the season. “It was a little gift of inspiration,” said Rodriguez. “She has these amazing graphic paintings and collages. She’s very much about bold color and the most perfect line.” The sartorial translation? A smart, breezy lineup that put the spotlight on colorblocking (some patterns verged on oversize plaids) and spliced fabrics. Rodriguez fashioned dresses and separates, both in a variety of relaxed silhouettes, from patchworked panels of raw and laminated linen, to nylon and silks in neutrals and brights. And in keeping with the art theme, the designer also whipped up two terrific structured coats, in a collage of raw and black laminated canvas, that pack a two-in-one punch: they’re reversible.
