While Maria Cornejo’s signature for Zero + Maria Cornejo is a distinct one, each season her colors, prints, shapes and lots of twists and turns make the collection look new. For resort, she was inspired by a visit to Miami. The city’s ground tiles turned up as prints on dresses and swimsuits (her largest collection of the latter thus far), while she channeled its architecture, sunsets and sunrises for color blocks in a blazing palette that was mixed with neutrals for dresses that were lean and angular yet softly draped for a bit of paradox. “I approach the season thinking, ‘What does my customer want to wear in November, whether she is in New York or Miami?’” said Cornejo. The answer came in cashmere and viscose cardigans and sturdy cottons and silk or viscose jerseys in her full-range shapes that are sure to move from day into night with comfort and ease.
