Under the new artistic direction of Olivier Rousteing, cruise marks Balmain’s first pre-collection. The result read more as an evolution than a revolution, but the sexy glitzy factor was not tamed. The line was full of the usual Balmain gems, this time inspired by California with a biker-style eagle print and a Native American and Mexican motif. Elvis in Las Vegas was also a kitschy theme, shown in richly embroidered numbers, some dangling with gold chain fringes. It might sound like too much to handle, but the look was actually a chic effort. The classic le smoking jacket was there, this time tailored with narrow structured shoulders and a fresh new length, while military touches were done in a lacquered raffia fabric and colors expressed the bleaching effect of the California desert sun.
