After coming across some archival photos of ballet costumes designed by Cristóbal Balenciaga in the Thirties, Nicolas Ghesquière looked to the fluidity and movement of contemporary dancers for his resort collection. Think: molded meets fluid. There were bustiers and corsets, light jersey skirts, silk jackets with foam sleeves, bonded wool sweatshirts and skirts with structured ruffles — all shown in an array of romantic colors. The clothes should manage to hit just the right note between Ghesquière’s cool-girl cult following and those looking for a more feminine twist.
