“A sense of lightness” guided Vera Wang’s beautiful resort collection, in which she scaled back on the opulence and decorative effects she’s known for in favor of ease. It came not at the expense of sophistication or romance, both key to her airy, layered look. In an effort to make a sheath look “not too sheathy,” Wang showed ultracropped sweaters and tunics and vests done in gorgeous matte sequins over whippet-thin dresses. The fabrics were graphic yet delicate with many modern takes on traditional lace in honeycomb and webby patterns in black, ivory, pale blue and icy pink. There was also a significant men’s wear element in pinstripe Bermuda shorts and tailored vests softened with lacy lingerie influences.
