Little Edie Bouvier Beale, a Valli girl? In Giambattista’s eyes, yes — at least for resort, which he designed with a few of Beale’s quirks in mind. Extravagance merged with eccentricity in the luxurious fabrics done in both delicate and loud patterns. Of the demure, there was a floral-printed embroidered organza on an overcoat, while a black-and-white scribble print on separates demonstrated the collection’s bolder side. Much of the lineup’s Beale-ness owed to styling: Looks were shot with head scarves and printed Birkenstock-esque sandals. But pulled apart, the collection boiled down to classic femininity and modern ease. A white embroidered organza dress with a flared skirt was short and sweet, and floral-printed track pants shown with an upscale T-shirt epitomized casual luxury.
