Shown alongside the men’s spring collection, the Kenzo resort line was inspired by the nightclub scene of the Nineties.
Humberto Leon and Carol Lim cited a litany of venues in their show notes: Sound Factory, Area, Tunnel and Limelight, among others. They secured the rights to original club flyers and worked them into busy prints, like the magnified snakeskin that was used for a series of slipdresses worn with high black socks.
Many looks were studded with oversize eyelets, which also cropped up on denim jackets, tops, pants and over-the-knee coats cinched with jeweled chains. The links took the collection in a more dressed-up direction, as did a selection of colorful ribbed knits and long coats with gold side buckles.
For pure hedonism, the duo went down the rainbow-raver route with a multicolored striped sweater and a cartoonish print featuring trippy details. Cropped leather jackets and A-line minis, worn with wedge boots, brought to mind the Spice Girls — the decade’s ultimate girl group.
