Each season, Joanna Mastroianni’s clothes get sportier, younger and hipper as her hems go up, fabrics get lighter and colors get bolder. Lots of mini shifts and a well-tailored but easy, shorts suit highlighted her spring spirit. And, in a fine nod to Courrèges’ bold graphics and sleek shapes, Mastroianni focused on black and white, as in a terrific, white cotton pique swing coat with black geometric pockets over pleated shorts. She was also inspired by Tony Duquette’s brazen colors and quirky embellishments — mirrored in a tangerine cowl tunic with beaded coral pants or with an indigo strapless dress, hand-beaded with malachite and onyx stones. Her Palm Beach signature was still there in lovely gowns, especially the white column under a chartreuse cap-sleeved opera coat.
