For her Japan Fashion Week debut, designer Demian Celica Kanou played with gender identity, working feminine materials such as lace, pearls, eyelets and rosettes into traditionally masculine items like trenchcoats, motorcycle jackets and Bermuda shorts. “Men also want to make their own statement with fashion,” she said, adding that her collection is essentially unisex. Kanou produces women’s sizes of her garments, but thinks of men when she is designing, she explained.
