A pitch black, airless and sweltering presentation space punctuated by strobes and smoke didn’t put Lala Berlin in the best light. But once the smoke lifted and the lights came on, some good ideas were on view. These included pastel oil slick prints and a prismatic motif sprinkled with glow-in-the-dark stars (hence the initial blackout) on silk chiffon tops and dresses, including her leading dress of the season: a floor-length shirt dress. This looked strongest of all in bleached white cotton, sometimes sheer on the sleeves, or sheer on the body. Mega-gauge white sweaters had spider web yokes or were covered in clear plastic, which reappeared as inserts on patent leather boots and shoes made in cooperation with Unützer. Another collaboration with Christ Jewelers brought forth star-struck harnesses and belts.
