Rena Lange has cornered the market on trimmings this season, a bevy of ribbons, braiding, lace, and little shiny black floral paillettes sharing the stage with embroidery, appliquée, jeweled beading, sequins, piecing, piping and engineered printing. Sometimes with three applications and more on one garment or outfit. As in the multi-colored striped silk crepe de chine blouse with little floral accents running down the front and round the armholes, a print scarf wrapping the neck, and striped skirt made up of multiple and divergent trims – a carryover from an earlier house success. Other Rena Lange icons also carried on – the little white Peter Pan collar, plus numerous new black and white takes. Indeed, new head designer Carsen Fielitz was previously a member of the house’s design team and knows his way around. And for all the embellishment, it carefully avoided going into overload.
