Like kids high on sugar, Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff are on a perpetual romp during their runway shows. Last season, they gave their collection a humorous Halloween vibe, and this time around they filled their show space with pastel balloons, Courtney Love look-alikes dressed in satin baby-doll dresses and 10-year-old ballerinas dancing in red satin shoes. The actual models were dressed like the love children of the Care Bears, Marie Antoinette and the Ziegfeld Follies. The show was an orgy of sugary pastels, crystallized corsets, bloomers and intarsia twinsets knitted with rainbows, smiling hearts and flirty eyes. There were marabou feathers galore, ice-skater tutus and basket dresses edged with guipure lace that looked as if it had been made from paper garlands. In fact, it was difficult to see anything that could possibly work on a woman older than, say, 10 years old. But it was pretty. And lots of fun. Plus, the knitwear will most certainly be a hit with extreme fashion lovers — and, no doubt, kindergarten teachers.
