In their freshman effort for Fay, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi brought a lighter touch to the brand best known for urban luxe outerwear. “We were inspired by the two counterparts of Italian women’s fashion in the Sixties as well as Fay’s core idea of a sporty, more masculine ethos,” Rimondi said at the presentation. The duo updated the trenchcoat in a techno fabric with patent piping and a matching ribbon band detail, and offered a red silk satin coat with vibrant pink details. The designers’ mandate is to amp up the Fay lifestyle, and for spring, that also meant a renewed focus on sportswear, featuring horizontal colorblocking for knit tops and a Sixties geometric print on shorts. Accessories — such as functional totes with patent or velvet ribbon details and high-heeled sandals in graphic patterns — underscored their more feminine direction.
