Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi’s one-off capsule to mark the house’s 20th anniversary clearly impressed the brand’s top brass. At the presentation and birthday celebration, the company disclosed that Aquilano and Rimondi were tapped as Piazza Sempione’s designers going forward, and their first full collection will be for fall 2012. It was a savvy move, because the spring group designed by the duo was fresh and modern — utilitarian parkas teamed with charming floral-print skirts, accordion-pleat details on a silk vest and crisp white shirts and pants that were all about the season. The results were highly wearable. For evening, they embellished pieces with large iridescent sequins for looks that could have walked right off to the birthday party, which was held in the beautiful courtyard of Milan’s Palazzo Cusani.
