Dean Quinn was born in Ireland, trained in London and insists that he wants, “to be an American designer.” He loves the sportswear here and believes that New York is where art and commerce meet. For his first collection, he was inspired by the Olympics and athletic uniforms, along with F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Beautiful and The Damned.” It was quite a combination that resulted in slender, beautifully cut dresses with dramatic contrast banding, cutouts or pleats for both short, slender dresses and fluid gowns — all in orange, white or turquoise silk morocain. Romantic yet precise, his first foray shows both confidence and promise.
