Spring marked a streamlined and decidedly sporty new look for Monique Lhuillier. Her lineup of body-conscious, often minimal, dresses, pantsuits or top-and-skirt combos featured a youthful playfulness via bold colors and understated silhouettes — a departure from her usual red-carpet fare. A short, tight pink sequined dress with trompe l’oeil seaming and a splatter-print trench best represented her spunky spring spirit. Lace (familiar for Lhuillier) and leather (not familiar) were used for strategically placed inserts, adding an edge to simple looks. While it was clear Lhuillier had fun experimenting with these new elements, they worked best at their most pared down.
