Any Josephus Thimister show always comes with its fair share of macabre atmosphere, and this theatrical display was no exception. Their heads snugly capped like icons in primitive Flemish portraits, models emerged in outfits that played on the dichotomy between light and dark via a palette consisting almost exclusively of white or black, bar a smattering of monastic browns. Dresses and tops in natural crinkled cotton gauze evoked medieval undergarments, while a toile maxi coat looked like a virgin canvas, and was equally stiff in its minimalist military cut. With its rough, handcrafted look, knitwear also had the rustic appearance of something straight out of the Middle Ages.
