Tsumori Chisato took her retro pinups on an island tour, spanning from Japan to the Caribbean, with Crayola-bright ensembles featuring a plethora of naïve prints. A motif blending mermaids, parrots and even a fire-spouting Godzilla (which recalled the paintings of Tadanori Yokoo) was emblazoned on everything from a swimsuit to a sequined skirt on which the leaves of palm trees sprouted three-dimensionally from the hips. T-shirts festooned with raffia leaves and a beaded waistcoat depicting monkey faces were best left to the under-20 set. But there were grown-up alternatives, too, especially in the chinoiserie elements such as side-fastened blouses or a cute ruby and turquoise satin jacket.
