On a raw wooden runway lit by fluorescent tube lights, Hiromichi Ochiai showed a colorful, fun spring collection for both sexes. The women’s offering incorporated everything from form-fitting dresses trimmed in tight ruffles and back bustles to menswear-inspired vests and white painter’s coveralls. The men’s selection was equally eclectic, with lots of layering and mixing of colors and patterns, such as stripes, checks and florals. Shiny satin, chunky knits, velour lapels and gnarled natural fabrics used throughout the collection were a nod to Ochiai’s background in textiles, and chainsaw-shaped leather tote bags added an extra dose of humor.
