“I was reminded of my own youth, and of school uniforms,” said Simone Rocha of her inspirations for a youthful show of sweet dresses with a sophisticated, technical edge. The designer (whose father is John Rocha) is rapidly making a name for herself in London with thoughtful collections that reflect her love of mixing fabrics and techniques — to wit, a sleeveless dress with a full skirt was made from embellished plastic. Simple dresses were made from white cotton eyelet with long, sheer sleeves and white bouclé with sheer embroidered panels placed here and there. Color came in the form of organza numbers embellished with flowers, one the color of a yellow highlighter pen, and a black circle skirt coated with a thin film of plastic. A gold, hand-crocheted waffle-knit dress was among the standouts. Overall, it was pure joy: assured, focused, and fresh, with clothes that will appeal to a wide variety of women.
