There were dark themes at play on Todd Lynn’s catwalk. The designer referenced Joseph Conrad’s novella “Heart of Darkness,” the film “Apocalypse Now” and artist Peter Beard for a collection that centered on themes of safari and colonization.
Lynn is a master of clever cuts and, this season, the lineup featured reinterpretations of safari and tuxedo jackets. Opening with a suede riff on the former, the jacket had patch pockets that hung below the hem and was teamed with a finely cut pair of matching boot-cut trousers. Suede segued into silk dresses that featured prints created by the artist Marcus James. Jacquards were used for dresses that brought volume to the front through folds and gathers, while still flattering the waist.
