For spring, Barbara Tfank offered a much lighter touch than in seasons past. The mood was underscored by more youthful shapes and simpler fabrics than her traditional brocades, matelassés and cloque. It was the cotton sateen numbers that really made a difference; the fabric was worked on a black T-shirt with a scalloped cord neckline, paired with red flared pants and terrific, below-the-knee halter sheaths in both grass-green and black. Even some of Tfank’s evening looks had an airy sensibility, especially the strapless bustier dress with a full skirt in pale blue lamé.
