Furrier Gilles Mendel emphasized ready-to-wear this season, and none of his clever workmanship or elegance was sacrificed. The designer had romance on his mind with beautiful dresses, both short and long, in hand-pleated satin, along with the chiffon wisteria-printed gowns. Lacy leathers created a bridge between his old and new directions, demonstrated on terrific pieces like a sleeveless top with binding details and an A-line skirt.

Of course, his fabulous furs were in the mix, the best being an open-back trapeze top and pleated skirt that softly shimmered in pale green astrakhan. Mendel’s only misstep was the blast of orange worked into everything from a finn raccoon jacket to a crepe dress. That is, of course, unless orange is your thing.
