In marking her 35 years in fashion this season, Josie Natori took the occasion to also celebrate her heritage. It was “the colorful history and folklore of the Philippines of my youth” that inspired her, she said during her intimate presentation, adding, “It’s a vibrant collection that reflects a vibrant culture.” The designer translated this vision into richly embroidered blouses, chic tribal-print trousers and plenty of exotic floral patterns on tops and dresses. For evening, easy jersey dresses appeared in tropical colors.
The look was accented throughout with jewelry, from simple bangles to statement necklaces, made of natural materials such as horn, bone and wood. Natori also pointed out that she designed the shoes in the presentation, and will do so again for fall. Could a footwear line be far behind?
