“I was really inspired by synchronized swimming of the late 1920s and Thirties, so I created mirrored images in my embroideries and in the layouts of the laces,” explained designer Joy Cioci. A pretty shell embroidery appeared on a pencil skirt, which also featured a net insert made to look like seafoam. A water print showed up on cool boardshorts as well as on a flutter-skirt dress. But the lacy frocks were most memorable and ranged from a flirty halter that was fit and flared with black lace inserts on the sides to a majestic, white turtleneck lace and pleated chiffon empire gown.
