Lela Rose’s show was a testament to just what a great balancing act the designer can perform within a single collection. Inspired by the contrasts in artist Jim Hodges’ work, Rose’s clothes were at once sophisticated and young, with a dose of glamour shot throughout. In her hands, black guipure lace became a fresh element, accenting the waist and sides of a white sheath or detailing the legs of lavender silk pants, while sexy sheaths got a youthful kick thanks to brightly colored camouflage prints. Rose’s best looks were her evening gowns and cocktail dresses — especially the flowing goddess number in dusty gray chiffon layered over silver spider lace.
