This season, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac took a Brazilian turn with a collection that was, true to his signature, heavy on pattern. The most memorable motif was a tropical foliage fused with an urban landscape — think Oscar Niemeyer —which on dresses and coats had commercial appeal.
De Castelbajac also toyed with proportion, offering strong shoulders (a big trend this season) on several looks. They were cut to resemble 3-D clouds atop one clear plastic dress with a metallic skyscraper motif down the front. It added a whimsical touch — even if it looked weird.
