Japan fashion week is home to many an avant-garde design school graduate but it occasionally taps into the lighter side of Tokyo street style and invites an unexpected brand to participate. It’s a nice detour and serves as a reminder of what makes this city so unique. Celebrity model Chinatsu Wakatusuki launched her own brand WC back in 2009 and it embodies Japanese females’ obsession with all that is cute — the label’s mascot is a teddy bear wearing overalls for starters. The heaps of ruffled tutus, a very generous use of denim and some skin-baring looks (hello high-cut jeans briefs) gave off a Lolita meets farmer’s daughter vibe that would look perfectly acceptable on the streets of Shibuya, where the brand opened a flagship store a year ago.
