Loosening up — some embrace it; many aspire to it, particularly in the summer months.
At Sportmax, the concept provided a strong sartorial base this season with languid silhouettes that demonstrated ample ease and a soft palette, from faded pinks and yellows to stark whites. A blush slipdress with a wide suede hem panel, for example, embodied an easy spirit.
For surface detail, the design team often worked a dot theme, which came in many variations: marking a pink camisole pajama, woven into a mesh shift, exaggerated on the sides of a languid dress. The motif worked best when handled with subtlety, as in a cool white dress with a large sheer circular inset that went from hip to hem. At times, excessive gusto with the dots weighed down the light nature of the shapes.
This was especially the case with extra-dilated ones, as in the oversize beige sweater with black circle motifs that were perfectly aligned with the black dots on a beige skirt. It felt whimsical in a Disney kind of way.
