With dandyish Janelle Monáe and her band on hand to provide the live runway music, Rebecca Minkoff’s show was set to be a fun affair, and the lighthearted clothes added to the notion. The designer looked to Mexico and strong Latin American women like Frida Kahlo and Bianca Jagger for inspiration, effectively merging artisanal details such as elaborate floral embroidery and lace with sportier elements that gave these looks a distinct street touch.

A leather jacket with delicate floral stitching, for example, worked nicely with tweed shorts; a tracksuit jacket worn over a whimsical T-shirt that stated “Let’s all go to Mexico” was shown with a pretty yellow lace pencil skirt. The languid, vibrant silk dresses that ended the show were just as ready for that trip south of the border.
