Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin generated plenty of buzz after their beautiful and feminine presentation for Tome. They were inspired by Ana Mendieta, a Cuban-American artist who, as a pagan, immersed herself in the elements by creating art carved from the earth. This was the starting point for the designers’ techniques. For example, they shredded traditional tweed into strips and reconstructed it into a beautiful jacket, and they laid python skin over a tulle skirt.
Also in the mix was a delicate lace camisole dress, a plastic coated coat and an intricate pleated dress with a capelike back. All was rendered in various shades of pink, ivory and a dusty lavender. It’s no wonder they are part of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalists.
