A pinup girl and a sign reading “Palm Lounge” welcomed guests at Jean-Paul Lespagnard’s Cancun-inspired spring collection. Models mingled with the crowd, some taking sips of Champagne at the beach bar and others just hanging out and listening to music in shell-shaped headphones.
The designer said the notion he wished to convey was “a chic woman traveling to Mexico during spring break.” This translated quite literally into beach towels draped around the hips as skirts and bathrobe sleeves hanging down the waist.
More urban and street-friendly were four-pocket shirts inspired by the Mexican men’s style, which Lespagnard rendered in a beautiful jacquard fabric. Paired with extra-roomy pants, these touristy looks were as practical as the series of rucksack-cum-handbags Lespagnard introduced in collaboration with Eastpak.
