Of the smaller designers flying relatively under the radar in New York, Sylvie Millstein seems poised to break out. Her spring collection was a more expressive take on the look of laid-back luxury that she’s homed in on. The work of Brooklyn-based artist Rachel Pontious put Millstein in a creative daytime mood as she placed emphasis on the back, with a green peplum jacket cut short from behind, and languid shirts with detailed trapeze backs. “It’s an interesting way to have people take another look at you,” she said.
Millstein also stretched her knitwear range with a great Bolivian macramé cardigan and put a fresh spin on stripes on a long cotton linen dress with a ruffled waist.
