Tweaking her strategy, Tamara Mellon unveiled spring this fashion week while still maintaining her concept of monthly deliveries and seasonless clothes, i.e,. items made in fabrics that work year-round. A visit to the “Mingei: Are You Here?” exhibition at Pace Gallery earlier this year inspired her January (“spring”) delivery, which merged contemporary silhouettes with traditional Japanese motifs and futuristic details. For example, a blue georgette jumpsuit featured a vinyl hologram neckline, and a romper was rendered in gold leather. The more casual looks were the standouts, particularly her T-shirt dresses and the tank top shown with drawstring culottes in an Asia-inspired print.
