Susie Lau’s show notes for Ryan Lo’s spring collection promised a “cacophony of cultures and countries” — Turkey, Egypt, India — “sugar dusted beyond recognition.” If that wasn’t sweet enough, there was a sack of lokums on each seat and the runway was strung with tinsel lanterns in candy wrapper foil.

Some of the short dresses were cute with their puffball shoulders, while longer ones in layers of scalloped peacock lace were demure. But some exits veered on the clownish, such as harem jumpsuits in noisy prints and Pierrot sweaters with sleeves dangling to the ankles. Lo dedicated the show to his fashion hero Sonia Rykiel, who died last month at age 86 from complications of Parkinson’s disease.
