Meow! Giambattista Valli went a little bit wild for his spring Giamba collection, working a feline attitude literally with a sweet cat printed dress, and suggestively with a pair of leopard print pants with an image of a wildcat’s face positioned on the crotch. A little on the nose? Yes, but it captured the lineup’s sense of humor. By not taking things too seriously, and indulging the try-anything-once side of youthful dressing, Valli has made Giamba a fresh, distinctive addition to the entry designer market. He indulged a rockabilly/boho attitude via fringed dresses with Western-shirt collars and floral skirts; flirted with corrupted innocence with sheer, lacy cropped tops and tiny skirts, and generally celebrated a free-spirited, flesh-baring attitude with short floral hippie dresses, babydolls and patchworked fare that would be right at home at any music festival. Enhancing the vibe were the silver, seemingly tribal markings painted on the models’ foreheads.
