The big news at Woolrich for spring was its collaboration with embroidery firm Jato on South Western designs that traced a military-esque weather-proof parka. Creative director Andrea Cane was inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe for the season and built up desert-inspired wraps and kimono jackets in a palette of earth tones to dress up the outerwear that is the heart of the company. They’re getting into sneakers, too, with styles that are a hybrid between performance and lifestyle. Parkas came in neutral earth colors and a bandana print. It was a nice way to give the outerwear a novelty boost without making it disposable.

The jackets are built to last and remain Woolrich’s bread and butter, which Cane is happy about. “The coat is the new bag,” he said, referring to the strength of outerwear as a category. “Especially in the younger generation, the sneaker business and outerwear business is relevant more than the ready-to-wear, so we’re lucky to be in that category.”
