Away has expanded their luggage options for longer travels with checked in bags.
The new bags are medium- and large-sized, made of German polycarbonate for durability and ultralight weight. The interior features Away’s patent-pending compression system and removable laundry bag, as well as its four 360-degree spinner wheels. The medium bag is priced at $275 and the larger version at $295.
Away’s founders are Jen Rubio and Stephanie Korey, who are former Warby Parker executives. The company’s first product, a carry-on bag for $225, was first available in February. The carry-on has a built-in battery that’s accessible from the outside. The high-capacity battery can charge devices up to five times.
Korey said, “We’ve taken the same clean, sleek shape and upsized it for longer trips: The medium has a 62 liter capacity and the large is massive, with an 86 liter capacity.”
The company last year raised $2.5 million in a seed round that included venture capital firms Forerunner Ventures and Accel Partners. Away also counts Andy Dunn, founding chief executive officer of Bonobos, as one of several individual investors.
Rubio said of Away, “We exist to make travel easier and better, and luggage is just the beginning. You can expect to see other travel necessities in the coming months, all crafted for the way people truly travel with the same design-led and behavior-focused approach that we took with our suitcases.”
