When it comes to politics and real estate, Ivanka Trump and her father Donald Trump are close partners. But they go their separate ways when it comes to fashion. “I don’t give him fashion tips. He’s got a look that works for him,” said Ivanka, just before being honored at the 27th annual Fashion Accessories Benefit Ball at the Chelsea Piers Wednesday night.

Ivanka Trump received the prestigious FABB Achievement Award at the event, which drew 840 guests and raised approximately $400,000 for the Cohen Children’s Medical Center, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, and The Eric Trump Foundation for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In addition, the Kohl’s Corp. accessories and jewelry team received the Fashion Accessories Merchandising Excellence Award, and 16 merchants from retailers around the country were inducted into Accessory Magazine’s Merchants Hall of Fame.

Not surprisingly, Trump, in a short interview, chose to discuss her growing fashion business — the Ivanka Trump Collection — rather than politics. She was dressed head-to-toe in her own label, which she wears religiously. “I’m not being promotional. These are great products. I’m proud of them and they’re reflective of my aesthetic — feminine, polished, appropriately sexy. Aside from sneakers, I haven’t worn another brand since I launched my collection.” She did acknowledge one exception — the Met Gala Monday night, where she wore a custom-made Ralph Lauren “gown-slash-jumpsuit.” She also wore de Grisogono jewelry that evening, but the shoes, handbag and bracelets were all hers. Her own line is about providing “solution-driven clothes for the multifaceted working woman.”

More fashion solutions for different categories are in the pipeline. “We will be making announcements shortly, including some interesting international opportunities” said Trump, without disclosing any details. Eyewear would be one very logical addition to her collection. “She started in fine jewelry and has already expanded into footwear, handbags, ready-to-wear and coats,” said Liz Rodbell, president of Hudson’s Bay Co. department store group, who presented Trump with her award. “Ivanka Trump is a very important brand,” Rodbell said. “Ivanka is very involved,” despite helping her father in his presidential campaign, being a wife and mother of three and serving as executive vice president of development and acquisitions for The Trump Organization.
