When it comes to bags, it’s a tale of two sizes for spring. Not only did the runways produce teeny tiny bags — some even small enough to be worn as a necklace — they also showed humongous totes. Phoebe Philo offered a red leather version with grommet studs that’s large enough to haul a week’s worth of groceries, while Phillip Lim showed a style that looked as if it were made from an old pair of overalls worn by a rather rotund farmer. And perhaps Demna Gvasalia of Balenciaga had practicality in mind when he created a carryall based on blanket and mattress-pad bags and the traditional North African “poof” seat. Fill them with enough stuff, and you’ll always have a place to rest.
