Jeremy Scott’s fall cowgirls unveiled the American designer’s latest collaboration on the runway this week — sunglasses. Scott has teamed with Italia Independent for the production of a line of sunglasses that will bow in stores in June.
Made from matte transparent cellulose acetate, the unisex frames in a classic shape are revisited through Scott’s bold and eccentric touch on the front and temples. A colorful liquid in special niches that are integrated into the front and on the sides create different effects when the liquid moves. The sunglasses are available in six colors, while the mirrored lenses match the colored liquid inside the frames.
Highlighting Italia Independent’s expertise in the category, Scott said: “I always like pushing my partners to think outside of the box, and this technical challenge of encapsulating liquid in the frames was exactly in keeping with that philosophy.”
“Working with Jeremy is a great source of energy. We were able to create an outstanding, cutting-edge product — unique, ironic, colorful and completely surprising,” said Lapo Elkann, cofounder and chairman of Italia Independent.
The eyewear will be available in leading international fashion, concept and department stores at a retail price of $160.
Italia Independent also manufactures sunglasses for Scott as part of the designer’s tie-up with Pepsi Co.
Among other collaborations, in September, Italia Independent signed a four-year agreement with Adidas to produce eyewear for the Adidas Originals brand. The Italian company is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.
