MILAN — Italian eyewear company Safilo Group has partnered with South Korean commercial eyewear operator Seeone for the exclusive distribution of its brands in the country’s independent optical market, which excludes travel-retail shops. The deal takes effect on Feb. 1.

“South Korea has for Safilo a strategic global importance, as a domestic market, design trendsetter for Asia and worldwide, and as an important Asian tourist destination,” said Safilo Group’s chief executive officer Luisa Delgado in a statement. He said the company’s goal is to build “an effective business in Korea for the longer term.”

Seeone’s ceo Sungjoo Ko emphasized the significance of Safilo’s diversified portfolio covering all market segments. “With them, we see important growth opportunities that will strengthen our business in Korea,” he said.

Safilo’s South Korean duty-free business will continue to be managed through Safilo’s global travel-retail channel organization and local agents.

Safilo designs, produces and distributes eyewear collections for a range of brands, including Dior, Dior Homme, Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Max Mara, Swatch and Tommy Hilfiger, among others.
